The Authority of College of Trades Inspectors on Your Jobsites

Published on: 24/09/2014

Since May of 2013, the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) have been very active on jobsites across the province, having conducted 10,500 field inspections, received 1,200 complaint calls, and issued 280 provincial offences tickets. With this new inspectorate now arriving on jobsites, it is important to understand what their authority is and what you, as the employer, are responsible for. Attached in PDF is a briefing note prepared by Sherrard Kuzz LLP (Employment and Labour Lawyers) who have reviewed the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act to decipher precisely what authority an OCOT inspector has.
